Just heard DM Design got £90k fine for cold calling.

I wonder if this is the start of a more far reaching purge.

We just saw that Mark.

Everyone will think this is a fix, but here's an article on spam texts and cold calling that was added to the site in the past few hours!!

(Link removed).

I think this is becoming an increasingly "hot" issue.

I recently got cold-called by a firm trying to sell me some sort of package that stops cold-callers. It did make me chuckle.

Puts me in mind of that Kerry Katona selling payday loans thread

Sounded like their office was right in the middle of a busy roundabout.

I was cold called last year by someone offering debt advice. When they asked my name i called myself Santa Claus... I kept it going with the caller for 9 mins. My address was 1 North Pole Road. I had the call on speaker phone for the whole office to hear.

Still makes me laugh now thinking about it.

I was called a few times by the same company trying to sell me a conservatory, I told them I was not interested but still they rang..... So I gave up and arranged for them to visit and give me a quote, for some reason the guy who visited was slightly annoyed with me as I live on a third floor flat, I said you called me....!!!!

My cousins cold call my elderly gran on a regular basis offering free double glazing, loft insulation, kitchens you name it....It's come to the point now when the phone goes she says "that'll be them" again - point is she either says no or simply hangs up. I think they better watch now after this fine.

I changed my number and registered with the Telephone preference service (TPS)-sorted.

2 days later, I answered the phone to hear 'hi it's Mindy from BlahBlah home improvements, we're doing a promotion in your postcode area. How many windows would you change in your house if it was free?' Irate, I answered 'Only the one I'd put you through!' Mindy started laughing and calling to her colleagues 'get this, she said....repeating me and then couldn't speak for laughing. I got angrier and angrier and explained why I did not find it funny and how I'd registered with TPS and could I speak with her supervisor as I intended to report them. Now it was obvious the entire office was rolling around like smash men, Mindy HUNG UP ON ME!

Then my nephew arrived at the door to tell me it had been my sister.[:D]
That call has done more to help me keep calm on the phone than anything else, like your gran, sparky1,I'm desensitized.

Ha ha - like a fish on a hook.

The ones that get me are the places that you do have stuff with already that are trying to get you to upgrade or whatever. They call you and then immediately launch into their ID process, insisting that you have to answer lots of questions first before you can have the pleasure of being sold to by them. What a cheek!

It really is ridiculous. For "security reasons" they won't tell me why they are calling until I divulge all sorts of sensitive information, like my mother's maiden name etc - surely this is a security breach waiting to happen?

I'm going to stop there before I get into full-blown rant mode!

Yesterday I called 2 lenders for redemption figures I'd asked for last week, in the post!

Even although I quoted account numbers, my DOB and property address, I didn't pass security as I couldn't tell them the date payments are made or the amount. (Was not at home and calling from my mobile). grrrr

We know a business that failed Santander's security checks to access their new bank account because the guy at Santander took down some information incorrectly during the account application process.

Probably shouldn't be surprised though.
