I reluctantly entered into a Trust Deed 3 years ago. Final payment is next month.

Just prior to that I opened an account with the Co-operative and their service has been excellent. There are no branches local to me which is inconvenient, however, I can deposit money at the local post office which is convenient.

I have a mortgage with Nationwide Building Society which is a fixed 5 year term and it comes to an end Next year. I am concerned about any interest rate penalty they will apply for renewal, although I have never defaulted or been late with a payment.

Hi Firewalker.

When your fixed mortgage expires Nationwide may offer you replacement deals (fixed, tracker etc) which are worth considering.

If they don't the mortgage will almost certainly move onto the SVR, a rate which you will not know until the time and which can change subsequently.

The good news is that there are now going to be some cooperative branches in out high streets very soon. I would not think that nationwide will be a big problem if you have been making payments on time. Although it may be the variable rate, that is quite low just now...let's hope it stays that way!

I think I read the other day that mortgage rates are expected to come down a little if anything. Let's hope so anyway!

Thank you for the quick feedback.

Good news if the Co-operative will have more accessible branches although they are very good to bank with and so it is only a slight inconvenience in comparison. They even wrote to me to advise me I had accidentally gone into overdraft, but since it was corrected quickly there would be no charge. How's that for service nowadays!

Anyway, for once I thought the SVR may be a help since it is lowe than my current fixed, if they do not offer me a good alternative to the current arrangement.

Thanks again.

The Co-op is great apart from their internet banking - huge lag on it. I took cash out on a Friday, checked my account on line on the following Monday and it was still showing as if I hadn't taken out the cash! I telephoned them to find out what was happening and they explained that the only way I could find out exactly how much was in my account was to check it via a cash machine - which sometimes isn't that handy! [:I]

I have written to them to find out when this will be fixed and they have acknowledged that letter. I am awaiting a more definitive answer!

All in all it is a great bank and that is the only problem I've come across!
