I finish my TD in December of this year and I'm currently on a secondment in another area with a (financial - not a bank) company for almost 17 years, good track record etc..
I've got an opportunity to go for a new internal vacancy meaning more cash (I'll deal with that issue with my Trustee) but we now have a new vetting policy which includes, you guessed it, a credit check. After reading it today it explains that if you get offered a job there will be a check of CCJ, Scottish Decrees, and if there's a fail then it goes to a vetting panel to a/ decide whether you can still get the new role, and b/ if you can remain in your current role. Though I guess that would be extreme.
I know the TD is on my record for at least another 3.5 years so I know I'm gonna have to cross this bridge eventually - but any opinions or thoughts would be great. PS I plan to discuss my TD with HR before I go through the selection process.
Thanks
Hello leeper1974.
I think the fact that you would be considered for a job with higher pay demonstrates that you are both in good standing with your employer and that your financial/trust deed status has not been detrimental to your performance.
You are also approaching the end of the trust deed.
If you intend to apply I do think a chat with HR or a trusted senior colleague in advance would be wise.
Thanks, I'll keep you all posted x
Hi leeper1974
I would agree that you are obviously doing a good job if you are being considered for a promotion. I would hope they would be understanding, and your track record would be more important. I have had someone before who asked for a letter from their trustee to confirm that they had cooperated with the trustee, and made their contributions as agreed. I hope this is not held against you [:)]

If you are going to talk to HR, given this could have an impact on your standing within the company, I would take representation in with you. A union rep or a member of staff that you trust would be good. That way, you have a witness to all discussions with respect to your position. You seem concerned that them knowing you have a trust deed might have an impact on your current position.
Nothing left to discharge - everything's done and dusted!
I had an informal chat with someone I know I can trust in HR who said the company are very 'forgiving' and look after 'long standing' employees, but recommended I drop a confidential email to them regarding it - which I've done. I'm going to inform the union of it on Monday so I've covered - unfortunately they were'nt available today.
that's positive leeper1974 - fingers crossed you will offered the new job
Fingers crossed here too Leeper1974. Good luck.

A new dawn.
Hi Leeper1974,
I work for a financial company too and had to declare my trust deed to my employer because we have to sign a declaration each year stating whether we have any financial problems. They claim to perform random credit checks on members of staff but i wasn't sure if they were allowed to do this. As I had just passed my probation period at the time I was worried that I was going to lose my job. I explained my situation to one person in HR who liaised with different people on my behalf and the outcome was that they sympathised with my situation and thanked me for my honesty and I received written confirmation that it wouldn't affect my career.
That was 3 years ago and I just received the good news on Friday that I was getting promoted, so hopefully you'll be fine too. Good luck.
Little update. Our HR department responded saying it's unlikely that at TD would show as it's not "a full check and would only show IVA, CCJ etc", I went back and said a TD was a Scottish IVA equivelant - and my gut feeling was that it would...no response. I intend to tell our internal union about this next week so they are informed. I've been upfront and they've not bothered really.
I'm still pursuing the new vacancy..will keep you posted...
