I have just signed a trust deed a couple of weeks ago and I know it's now a bit late but I am worried about my creditors objecting to it, one of them (northern rock) is about a third of the debt and I wonder if anyone has had experience on this before and what happened, also my creditors are still ringing me, what do I say to them? Also my trustee's company name is not in your recommended company's and I am now worried [:(]

Hi perston,

Northern Rock do accept Trust Deeds subject to certain criteria of which, I would hope, your Trust Deed company is aware.

Many visitors to the site who have gone onto to entering into Protected Trust Deeds have had Northern Rock amongst their creditors.

If you receive calls you should explain that you have signed a Trust Deed, provide the contact details of your Trust Deed company, politely explain that you are not prepared to discuss the matter any further and then hang-up.
If the contact from a particular company continues make your Trustee aware so that they can contact the creditor for you.

The only Trust Deed companies that we recommend are those of Julie, Mark and Kevin who post on this site.

There is a list of other Trust Deed companies on the site that may help people to avoid the Trust Deed "agents" who seem often to create confusion and additional expense for those who contact them. This list isn't exhaustive so there may be a few perfectly decent firms that are not on this list.

Many thanks for your reply, I will keep my fingers crossed and hope it becomes protected. My Trustee seems to be quite switched on so I hope it will run smoothly, thanks again.

Hi Perston

Northern Rock decisions are usually made by Grant Thornton in Belfast and as TDA advises, as long as the proposal meets certain criteria, then they will accept the Trust Deed.

Can I ask who the Trustee is. I note you went via Trust Deed Scotland who are not Insolvency Practitioners. They advise that they 'shop around from up to 30 Insolvency practitioners, getting you the best deal' but I have never dealt with them and don't know any other IP firm who has. I wonder if there are 30 firms in Scotland!

Hi Mark,

Trust deed Scotland were excellent and put me onto a company called Carrington Dean who up till now have been excellent too, both companies put my mind at rest and told me how it was, very happy up till now and just waiting on it becoming protected.

Thankyou for your reply.

Hi perston,
Nothern rock was one of my main creditors. With the help of Mark my Td went through without any problems.Like you and everyone else who goes through the 5 week waiting period it can be a testing time waiting for their TD becoming protected, try not to worry as most TD go onto be protected.Like TDA says if you continue to get calls letters pass them onto your trustee, also i would ask the caller for their name and pass on any info onto your trustee who should follow this up. I still receive the odd letter from my creditors which are then passed onto Marks Pa (my trustee)who puts a stop to them. Let us know how you get on and iam sure everything will be fine.

Hi All,

Well as from yesterday my trust deed is now protected, it was a tough 5 weeks and pretty worrying time and we also had a couple of objections from very small lenders ?ú1000 - ?ú1500 but I am glad Northern Rock did not object. All is good now and the stress is now gone.
