Well it's been a few months not for me with regards to the trust deed and things seem to be progressing along nicely.

Our second payments have been taken for the TD's chocking off another month and moving us ever closer towards our final payment. Most of the calls and letters have stopped. Just Barclays being persistent with me despite being told by both myself and the TD Administrator about the TD being protected etc. We are just waiting on conformation of the TD being recorded as protected but this is just a formality. I have been sending my wage slips on a monthly basis as my salary changes wildly with bonus payments and don't want a situation where we are behind or due monies etc So all in all goi9ng well.

I have agreed to do 6 months reviews for myself due to the question of my bonus changing etc which I pushed for feeling it prudent to keep things proper etc. My wife is working on a yearly review principle. I'm already starting to think about the review process etc. What do I typically need for this Wage slips for me obviously but do I also need ones for my wife for the same period? Also, is it reasonable to advise what our joint expenses are based on the expenditure costs etc we agreed when entering into the trust deed or do I need to give Acc statements also? I ask about the expenditure because we are working on a cash basis for us for some costs to give us maximum control over spending and some things are being paid using cards.

I will try and explain the last one in a bit more detail

For food and shoppingÔǪ We budget for £400 a week for the family. This shopping covers food, clothes, nappies etc. We felt that paying by card for this would not give us clear visibility on our account of how much we have spent and how much we would have left as the funds are mixed up with our monthly bills etc. Instead we withdraw the money once we have been paid, keep it in an envelope and take the money out as we go / shop. This lets us always know how much we have spent and how much is left for the month etc. Counter to that is how we pay for petrol. We both have a basic account which we put our monthly petrol allowances into which we then pay for by card in the garage . As it's petrol the value is fairly static due to my millage etc we do and is easy to manage from the card. All the amounts are in line with the values we gave for our regular monthly expenses etc.

The confusion for me is how easy is it to show the costs of things for ourselves in line with our advised expenses when it comes to the review. A bank statement only shows part of the picture for us as we are also working in cash also. Should I make a point of keeping all shopping recipes also to support?

I'm possibly over thinking things here as I have a tendency to do according to my wife 😉 and I know this needs to be discussed with my PTA AdministratorÔǪ I'm just interested taking your views on what I should be doing so I don't sound like a paranoid over thinking mad man when I next speak to the administrator lolÔǪ.

Half way already!

Hi colski. Try not to worry, the review process isn't about checking bank statements to see exactly what your money is spent on. As long as what you tell us you are spending on things like food/clothing etc is within acceptable limits then this would not be questioned further.

I think I might start organising my own spending like you do actually, colski. We use our debit cards for shopping and looking at the bank statement each month is frightening!

We use Money Plus it's a smashing tool for all your household bills and bank account/s even your mortgage. Lets you keep track of how your money is spent on what, petrol food clothes haircuts any expenses yo have, how your cashflow is looking:-)or 🙁 when your bills are due. You can bring down your bank account/s statements to it. Money Plus is free from microsoft we like it a lot. Once you input your credits and debits (Trust Deed amount) you can look forward to when it ends and see the graph go up and up :0)

Lol... No £400 a month for shopping including the kids stuff like nappies, clothes etc.

We are being ruthless with spending as we know we need to reign in our spending... That's what got us in to this mess after all.

Being a bit of a tech head I have a massive spread sheet for monthly spend that lets me account and track all my money also...
