I have experienced a sudden family bereavement and need to travel abroad over the next couple of days to attend the funeral.

Due to the unexpected cost of last-minute flights and my regular ongoing expenses (such as rent) falling due at the same time, I am facing a temporary financial shortfall this month.

Could you please let me know if a one-month temporary payment suspension or payment break is permitted under my Trust Deed for severe emergencies like this? I want to ensure I handle this properly and do not miss a payment without prior agreement.

Nick Smith can you assist please

Hi Housi,

Any decision regarding a payment break would be at the discretion of your Trustee, however in general terms a short payment break due to unforeseen expenditure or circumstances is fine. It's likely they would be agreeable to deferring the payment to the end of your Trust Deed.

The best advice I can offer is to contact the Trustee's office directly and arrange this with them.

Better to ask now than to just miss a payment, trustees tend to be more flexible when you flag it in advance. Hope they sort something out quickly given the circumstances.
