I just wanted to share my experience with my trust deed.

Signed trust deed on 28/04/2020 with Carrington Dean.

Had a few bumps along the way with them regarding communications etc but nothing major. Made my payments each month. I did inadvertently not tell them about a wage increase so my trust deed was extended to October 2025. But that was my fault. I made my last payment to my trust deed in October 2025.

In June 2025 my landlord told me he was selling my flat and expected that I would need to either buy my flat or rent elsewhere. He said the sale would start around April 2026.

Needless to say I started panicking as I knew my trust deed wouldn't drop off my credit report until end of April 2026 so there was no way I could get a mortgage!

From October 2025 I was able to start putting money away towards a deposit. I ensured I contacted all of the debtors to ensure my defaults were showing as April 2020 (check all 3 credit agencies). There was only 1 organisation that wouldn't play ball so I still has 3 defaults showing as June 2020.

In January 2026 I engaged a mortgage broker and explained my situation. He said that it would be tricky but he could see what I could do and suggested I try and wait until beginning of May.

I explained my situation to my landlord (i had to enter a trust deed as my husband left me with £16k of debt). Luckily enough the landlords current mortgage deal was for renewal in September 2026 so he put things back a bit for me.

In early May 2026 my mortgage broker was able to secure me a mortgage with barclays. They weren't too fussed about my defaults because there were so historical even though they still appeared on my account.

The upshot is I was able to get a decent deal and buy the flat I was renting.

I just wanted to share my story to show that there is hope at the end of a trust deed. I never thought I would get here!

My piece of advice would be to check all 3 credit reports, experian, equifax and transunion and make sure all of your defaults align with the date you signed your trust deed.
