Hi , first time I've used 1 of these sites, I was sequestrated on the 4/3/2009 and discharged on the 23/01/2010, On checking my credit file recently I noticed that there is a personal loan from TSB which was included in my sequestration still registered, the question I have is, can I have this removed or how long can it stay there, if I can get it removed how do I go about this, can I just go into the bank that I got the loan from?? I have my letter of discharge...

Welcome to the forum shaunny67.
We don't hold ourselves out to be experts on credit files, but we'll try to point you in the right direction.
The public notice regarding your sequestration is likely to remain on your credit file for six years. It should therefore vanish pretty soon.
The TSB loan, assuming it existed at the time you became bankrupt, should have a zero balance. Any default notice should not extend much beyond the start date of your sequestration. That would vanish six years after the entry was made.
You are correct that you'll need to approach TSB to get an error corrected. It's probably not something that branch staff will be able to help you with, but they might be able to point you in the right direction. I'd just ring up the customer services department directly.
Thank you TDA, I tried calling TSB but the girl I spoke to didn't have a clue who I should contact.
Thanks again

Hi shaunny67.
Under data protection law banks have a responsibility to ensure that the data they report to credit reference agencies is accurate.
As part of this process, they must appoint a Data Controller who is the person (or realistically in terms of a bank the department) that holds responsibility for this task.
The Data Controller might be a good person to contact regarding this issue due to the nature of their responsibility.
Sometimes people find it can also readily be resolved through the customer service team and, if it becomes necessary, the bank's complaints process.
Hi Shaunny67. I found the Defaulted Accounts Department was the most successful help in each case. Customer Services could perhaps transfer you or give you their number. The department name may vary a little from company to company.
Good luck.
Thanks TDA and Firewalker that info is very helpful I hope to get time this week to chase this up.

Hi shaunny67,
How did you find the Sequestration process? Often it's something that can intimidate someone when looking at their options.
Some good advice on how to try and improve your credit rating. I'm sure with a little effort you will be able to tidy this up. Let us know how you get on.
