One of the most common topics in the forum is dealing with credit files after discharge from a trust deed. It seems to cause a lot of confusion, frustration and work for people.
Let's say there was a service that would:
1: Check your file with all three credit reference agencies.
2: Get balances on debts included in the trust deed set to zero.
3: Ensure default notices are backdated to the time the trust deed began.
4: Ensure default notices are marked as being partially satisfied or satisfied.
The service would be a monthly subscription, probably having to run for three or four months maximum.
Remember, this is work you can do for yourself for the price of a few phone calls and/or stamps.
Would you pay (or would you have paid) for a company to do this for you?
How much would you be prepared (or would you have been prepared) to pay on a monthly basis for such a service (3 or 4 months likely)?
By the way... we're not going into credit repair!
We do have a meeting next week with a credible company that is.
This is big business in the USA, where inaccurate credit reporting is a big issue also. It's never caught on in the same way in the UK though, and is also a business that in the past developed a bit of a "reputation".
Probably - and around £20-£25.00 per month.
I think I would have. I think £20 a month would be reaching the limit of what I would want to pay. I did it all myself but haven't chased to get a few dates backdated that I probably could. If a company could do all of that, I'd be pleased.
Glad that's over with....
Tenner a month! More if they could sort out my canada square operations(egg loan) default still on file 6 years after the default!!!
Trust deed completed Jan 2012,Trustee discharge Nov 2012.
A new dawn.
I'd definitely make use of this service! With a 6 month old baby and starting up my own business I just don't have the time or the desire to spend ages chasing people. Ideally around £10 a month but I supoose I would pay a bit more as long as it was only for a few months.
I would be really interested in this service as clearing up my credit file is a nightmare. I would be prepared to pay a one off fee of around £50/60 so would equate to £20 for a few months. I am struggling to clear up my credit file and this is impacting on my ability to rent.
I would love something like this as i'm now over 3yrs discharged from LILA and still trying to clear up my credit file as none of the creditors had updated and were still defaulting every month. I've sent the certificate 4 times now to them and there are still 5 accounts to be updated i'm still chasing :/ I would be happy to pay £25 per month for 3 or 4 months to get mine completely cleared up and on the right path. On a side note, my husbands trustee said that the default date doesn't nec have to be the date the trust deed began is that right? some of them only registered defaults months later than that meaning that not everything will fall off his file at the same time (he is 6yrs in this year).
Thanks for the feedback so far. It would be great to hear from as many people as possible - whether you think it's a great or an awful idea, please let us know your thoughts.
trustdeed1 - The Information Commissioner's Office told us directly that default dates should be on or around the time a trust deed began.
That's great thanks.
I think its a good idea TDA but would rather pay a fixed fee than a monthly scheme as feel it could drag on and end up costing more than originally thought.

I think if this could offer near guaranteed results quickly then it would be worth a small premium, say £50-100. If it was to drag on however, the chances are it would remain as much of a hassle as it would have trying to deal with things yourself.

Perhaps to clarify the fee structure in relation to .....
The contractual commitment they give to clearing the information in relation to the fee they are charging.
The length of time agreed between company and client and actions after that. Example: no more than four months at which time review of progress, and distinct agreement to go forward.
Also, how many accounts are covered by the fee (it could be reasonable to think that a large number of companies is a slightly higher monthly cost than only one or two).
What do they guarantee for this? Example: dates set to Trust Deed date? Or within one month of Trust Deed date.
If they do not achieve the service level expected, what refund might there be, and how would it be calculated?
What you set out at the beginning TDA sounds ideal. It is the fine detail of what happens when they do not achieve that people may be interested in.
I agree Firewalker.
A company is going to come up against the same obstacles that some of our members do - a minority of creditors that simply don't do what they should.
In that instance the company would need to go to the Ombudsman or ICO just like anyone else would - and response times that are out of the credit repair company's control would then come into it.
