Im wondering, now that I'm in a TD, will I not be able to pay my car insurance monthly? It is up for renewal next month. Will it need to be all paid upfront?

Hopefully some of the other members will have some experience with this, Nemo1.

Certainly there is no legal reason you cannot and whilst it is a credit agreement that you are entering into, I wouldn't have thought it would be credit scored in the same way as other forms of credit. However, be careful to check the small print - you can't be too careful with insurance products and you don't want to find that your policy is invalid if you go to make a claim.

I know some people have experienced problems. I know someone who managed to get it through Direct Line...... just in case you run into bother.

I have stayed with the same company throughout my TD for fear of not being able to change in case they do a credit check.

My first renewal after I started TD was really high, I think because I'd had an introductory offer, so wasn't happy with it. I tried comparison sites and individual sites and a lot of them only came up with the option to pay the full year. Much searching later, I got a good quote from Swinton Insurance, meant I'd be paying the same as I had the year before with the other company. They didn't want a high deposit either, just the months' payment. This year when the renewal came through it was around the same, but I'd been on to a comparison site and their quote was less than they were giving me. When I mentioned that, they juggled the numbers and I saved even more money. Now paying much less for my insurance than I was 2-3 years ago .... not many people can say that with the way it keeps going up. Give them a try. Good luck

Hi Nemo1

I had a problem last month with my car insurance, the company I had been with for 4 years refused to renew with monthly instalments. Spents days on comparison sites, most would only accept payment in full or high interest rates. In the end went to Swinton and they were really helpful.

Good luck

Was with Sainsbury's Bank throughout my TD with no problems about paying monthly.

It even came down in price......[:)]

I've renewed car insurance twice now during my TD. Have used comparison sites and have never been refused instalments.

Glad that's over with....

I went with swinton but its worth shopping around, and make sure you read the small print as some policies exclude those who are bankrupt or in IVA's(but none seem to mention trust deeds)
