Hi,

Just wondering if my Trustee has access to my bank account and do they normally monitor your account throught the aggreement. Meaning do they go in and look from time to time to see incoming and out going.

My Trustee never had access to my account directly. I cannot imagine that would be appropriate.

I did furnish payslips and sometimes bank statements during twice annual reviews.

Hi poprey.

Your trustee could access your bank account details if they wanted to.

In practice this is likely to happen only if they considered that there was good reason to do so.

Hi poprey

TDA is correct. Your trustee has the authority to obtain this information if required, however this would only be used I guess if you failed to provide requested information.

The other issue would be that the bank freeze or close the account if they were previously unaware of the trust deed.

Thanks guys for the replies, I have my yearly bank review meeting with my bank this week, don't know if they know I am in a TD, should I keep this appointment or should I cancel it,surely if I have an account with them it should be kept open for the purpose of wages getting paid in etc

When i signed my TD I had an RBS current account for my wages etc with no overdraft. When they got notification of my TD they changed my current account to a basic account. That was a few months into my TD.

Hi poprey.

Banks typically only offer their basic accounts to persons in trust deeds.

Some banks offer no accounts at all.

This can (and does) lead to accounts getting closed with little or no notice when people have accounts that aren't technically available to them.

I guess the other point is that banks, in my experience, offer these "reviews" with the sole purpose of selling you stuff.

My RBS account changed to a basic account also shortly after my PTD started, I take it the bank would already know about the TD since they change the account, I wonder why they invited me in for a yearly review if the know I am in a TD and not eligible to but any products from them

You might still replace other products you need? House insurance for example.

If you're in the basic account and owe no money to RBS I doubt that your account is in any jeopardy.

There's every chance that you'd turn up, they would try and sell you a fancy account but then decide they can't offer it to you after all once they put it through a credit check. I doubt there is much point in going along to be honest.

I agree TDA, whenever I've had the review from the bank it's always been about trying to sell me their products. Now I don't even bother about the reviews.

Welcome to the forum kitkat.

When we last looked into this the only bank not offering a basic account to people in trust deeds was Nationwide (actually a building society).

That was a while ago so could have changed.

You'll want to avoid any bank that you owe any money to.

Make sure you apply for the basic account that your chosen bank offers (rather than being sold up into something with more features).
