Hi, my husband and I are 6 months into TD and he is about to be made redundant. He does not expect to get anything over statutory redundancy payment but this should be about 7000 due to time he has been in job. Is there any way that this could be taken into TD?

Hi Morow

generally the Trustee should have no right over the statutory element of the redundancy.

Hi Morow, welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is about to be made redundant.

As soon as your husband gets the paperwork from his employer, you should forward a copy of this to your trustee. The trustee will be able to clarify if the payment is statutory redundancy only or not.

Hi, thanks for quick replies. My husband hasn't been given any details from employer as yet, due to finish on Friday after working 12 weeks notice. We used online statutory redundancy calculator which gave us 7000+ figure. Hopefully he has another job lined up to start fairly soon, is it likely that our monthly payments will be raised due to this payment?Your comments are much appreciated, thanks.

Hi Morow

That's great to hear that your husband has another job lined up already!

Your husband's trustee will be within his rights to ask for a contribution from the redundancy payment, particularly as your husband has a new job lined up. It could be quite a substantial payment, however as each firm deals with this differently, I can't quantify this.

Please let us know how you get on.

Julie
