I was reminded of a posting on here a while back and thought I'd share my shopping news....

Spent £ 53.75 in Aldis this morning first time I've been and decided to "take the challenge" I normally get my shopping delivered by Sainsburys, that way I know how much its going to cost and dont get a shock at the till....however, then proceeded with my receipt to do a pretend order from Sainsburys for the same or very similar products £ 75.45, I'm converted already 🙂

Hi WIKIKEE

It's certainly a big difference and multiplied over weeks/months makes it even more so.

It shows it makes sense to step back & look at things & shop around. When I'm out at meetings it's easy to go and spend £4+ at a garage for a ( crappy) sandwich, when you can buy a full cooked chicken for £4.75!! I suppose it like most things where retailers rely on our apathy.

So if you see a guy in a car park working his way through a cooked chicken, its probably me!

Hi WIKIKEE

Actually, I thought it was 6 bottles of wine and a packet of biscuits. Biscuits being the 75p part!!

There are savings to be made all over the place. The guy I work with spends about a fiver a day on lunches,I can do my own lunches for the week for that amount.

I'm an Aldi convert since I've learned to budget. I used to get a weekly shop delivered by Tesco but now it's only monthly and in between its Aldi for fresh fruit/veg/meat etc and also Farmfoods for frozen - it's amazing how much the same item can vary in price!

The only reason I still go to Tesco is for the clubcard points (I look out for the bonus offers) which I'm saving for Xmas for the first time this year and as I don't shop as often will only be about £50 but will hopefully be able to double up and use it to buy presents - every little helps [:)]

Oh and another place is B & M (eg Heinz tomato soup is 59p v 89p at Tesco) plus lots of other bargains

final payment 1st May 2015

It really does help to shop about and become more savvy when doing the weekly/monthly shop. By making some small changes you really can save money. Even changing the day that you shop can help. We do our weekly shop on a Sunday and plan our meals so as to limit the amount of waste as at one point we were wasting a lot of food.

We also changed some of our shopping to Tesco to make best use of the clubcard points so when Christmas comes around we can use the points for this.

B&M is also good for picking up other items, we nip in there to get toothpaste & toiletries and some other items as well. We have a cat and a dog and sometimes the pet food can be a little cheaper in there.

I also work with someone who buys their lunch everyday Paul and it amazes me how much they spend. I look at it and think what they could spend the extra money on. Saying that, on payday I'll treat myself to lunch as the rest of the month it's cheese and pickle sandwiches or tuna and sweetcorn.
