Hi I've seen my details on the register of insolvencies as it is quite easy to sign up to and gain access. I'm just wondering what others opinions are who have viewed their details. I feel that this information shouldn't be made so freely accessible to anyone whom it doesn't concern - Data protection act and all that!

Hi sparky1.

Part of the purpose that's generally proposed about this is to alert people that you might trade with in the future. This is especially applicable for the self-employed.

I don't think its hard to envisage circumstances where making some of these personal details public could cause risks to certain people when they've become vulnerable for some reason or other.

I believe that they are planning to change the legisaltion so that a person's details can be left off the register if they would be made vulnerable by it - eg cases of domestic violence etc. Very much the exception rather than the rule though.

Ok never thought of the trade (self-employed) aspect. I've read before that my name comes of the register in a years time; but not sure if that's a year after my last trust deed payment or when myself and trustee are discharged. I'll hazard a guess - (when we are discharged?).

Hi sparky1.

I think it's a year after your trustee is discharged.

Someone will correct me if I've got that wrong.
