Can anyone tell me where the public register is that Trust Deed names appear. I had a Trust Deed which was finished in 2000, however I have recently had a letter from someone offering me help acessing PPI, intimating they have obtained my details from a public register. I have accessed the AiB - and entered my name - but it does not appear.

I think its a simple scatter gun mailshot rather than being directed at you. Records from back then will be long gone.

Welcome to the forum Giverblue13.

I guess that information may still be present on the Edinburgh Gazette website - it's possible that someone could have trawled through that. It's the old "advertisements" of trust deeds that appear on this record.

The thing is though... there's no phone numbers on that site, so I tend to agree with plasticdaft.

"Public register" sounds like just the sort of phrase that cold callers use to justify getting in touch having purchased your "data" somehow or other.

Thanks to you both for responding so quickly.

The contact was made via a letter and the person could name the trustee. Therefore wherever they looked they got my name, address, trustee and date when the trust deed was in place. As I am trying to access the same information and cannot I wondered if there was a way.

Surely this information should not be accessible over time?

Hi Giverblue13.

We tend to agree.

The fact of the matter, unfortunately, is that the Edinburgh Gazette is a permanent record that anyone can choose to search online.

This is not the case with the Register of Insolvencies that has replaced it: https://www.trust-deed.co.uk/searching-the-register-of-insolvencies.html

For the benefit of other readers, Trust Deeds signed now do not get advertised in the Edinburgh Gazette, this requirement was scrapped a couple of years ago.
