Happy New Year All!!!

Long time lurker here with a question:

I pay ?ú300 p/m to my PTD with my last payment being due in November 2010. I have ?ú3k left to pay, my girlfriend has offered to clear this off for me. Is this allowed? Ideally we'd like to do this, and move on in life (engaged, married, move home, etc.) and feel that an early settlement would be the 1st step to letting us make a break for it.

Thanks in advance

Hello DuckyPoo and Happy New Year to you as well.

I think your Trustee will probably be very receptive to your girlfriend completing your commitment to the Trust Deed. It is in the best interests of all the parties involved.

The next step would be contact your Trustee and put the offer to them.

Please let us know how you get on and fingers crossed for you.

Hi Duckypoo

I don't see any reason why not as the creditors would get paid earlier.

Your Trustee would need to ensure that the money was coming from a third party and that there were no material changes in circumstances .

Hi Duckypoo

I think it will be up to your trustee to decide whether or not this is acceptable. Your trustee may also wish to put your girlfriendÔÇÖs proposal to your creditors to see if they are willing to accept payment of the lump sum and to also bring the Trust Deed to a close early.

It will be interesting to find out your trusteeÔÇÖs opinion on this.
