Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, but I have been reading for quite a while.
I am not long out of sequestration and like many BRs or people in PTD - it's hard to imagine light at the end of the tunnel or life afterwards. I was not looking forward to the task of trying to obtain new credit.
I was in desperate need of a new mobile phone and I thought I deserved to treat myself after finally coming out one of the hardest times of my life.
I have been an O2 contract customer since 2008 and have always paid on time (obviously they weren't one of my creditors) and I have never had a problem upgrading in the past, because they didn't credit check existing customers, but I didn't want to upgrade during BR in fear that they may terminate my contract due to being in BR. Since 2012/2013 O2 now offer 'Refresh' contracts, where you choose your airtime tariff and a phone plan depending on the phone you choose and to suit you. When you have finished paying your phone plan, you only pay for your airtime tariff, making your bills cheaper if you keep your phone. As most phones cost £100s of pounds these days, this is an affordable way to get the latest phone without paying for the phone outright. Due to the phone plan being a credit agreement, they now credit check existing customers, as well as new customers. Naturally I was worried about this, because although my BR is marked on my credit file as 'discharged' - I know that it can still hamper obtaining new credit until it falls off my file. I thought 'what the heck - I won't know until I have tried', so I applied for a brand new Gold iPhone 5s. A few hours later - I finally had an email to say, 'thanks for staying with us, we are processing your order' and another a little while later to say the phone had been dispatched, which I would receive the following afternoon. I was over the moon to say the least. I did a wee bit of research on other forums beforehand (*hides* [:0] ) and it seems that although they do credit check all customers now, they usually only look for a good clean payment history with them and to check you aren't in BR.
I am writing this post from my shiny new iPhone 5s. [8D] I wanted to share my experience with others.
Take it from this constant worrier, if you think there isn't light at the end of a very dark tunnel, there is!
Hi Suze
What a great post and there's me typing this from my old iphone 4 as my upgrade went to my daughter.
There seems to be no real rhyme or reason to credit files and how they work and it seems to be an issue for some, but not for others.
Glad it worked out and for a nice positive post on a Friday afternoon.

Thanks Mark & TDA.
Hopefully this post helps others feel positive.
Hi Suze
It's probably human nature to post on things that go wrong as opposed to things that go right, so positive posts are always welcome and as you say it lets other people know that there is light at the end.

Hi Suze,
A good positive post for people to be reassured that there is in fact life after a Trust Deed or Bankruptcy.
Enjoy the new phone!

A new dawn.
Prompted me to post re o2.
MOH contract ran out in Jan this year, TD completed and she went into local o2 shop to upgrade, they wanted £99 so went next door to Car phone warehouse and walked out with an I-phone 5s in half an hour for £29
same tariff as o2 saved £70. She kept same mobile number.
Well done in getting through your sequestration Suze.

That's fantastic Plasticdaft. Great to hear another success story. Junior will be over the moon I'm sure.
I bought a cheap case off eBay and a longer cable, because the ones Apple supply are too short for my needs.
Since this post. I've managed to get a NEXT account too with a small credit limit of £300.
We aren't all chopped off at the head it seems. 🙂
