Hi there, myself ad my husband have come to the decision that our debts and monthly bills are ruling/ruining our lives, and lead us to think that a trust deed might be the way for us to go. The problem is we are not sure what the next step should be for us? How do we know which company to use or choose when we know nothing about the subject? The last thing we want is to use the wrong company and get messed around. Can anyone out there recommend a company they have used in the Glasgow area? Also I was wondering if anyone can tell me if we are allowed to take our childcare care costs (which are extensive) into account when calculating it? Thanks folks, Karen
Welcome to Trust-Deed.co.uk MrsB.
The first step is to take advice on your situation to confirm whether trust deeds are suitable for your husband and yourself. You'll also be able to found out about the alternatives so that you can weigh them up as well.
We don't say they're the only good companies (there are others) but this site recommends the four firms represented here by Mark, Kevin, David and Rob. If you have a read around the forum you'll find plenty of comments about their firms and also other firms.
Each of these firms has a Glasgow office. They would all initially offer advice based upon your circumstances. If you chose to proceed they could then assist you with trust deeds, sequestration or the debt arrangement scheme (DAS) depending upon which solution best meets your needs.
Childcare costs would be taken into account when calculating a contribution to a trust deed (or the alternatives).
This forum might also be useful first if you have further questions and queries that you'd like to cover.
Hi MrsB
Your childcare will be a valid expense. I think we all know the cost of this.
Best advice is to sit down and look at all options based on your circumstances. Write down a huge amount of questions to ask and then ensure all matters are fully confirmed in writing before deciding what your best option is.
It may appear to be quite daunting at this stage, but once you know all the options are, it will be a lot easier.

Hi MrsB,
Welcome to the forum and well done on taking the first step in dealing with things as this can sometimes be the hardest thing.
I can understand your concern and fear about not picking the right company to deal with. As TDA has said, have a look at the forum for reviews on the companies represented on it and also others.
The best thing to do is speak with a couple of advisors face to face about your situation. This can be done in their office in Glasgow, your home, a coffee shop or anywhere else you feel comfortable and at a time that suits you i.e. in the evening or at the weekend. A good advisor will work through your full situation with you taking all of your expenditure including childcare into consideration and explore all of your available options. Our childcare is over ยฃ500 per month so it's a valid expense.
Following this you can then decide if you are happy with everything. The main thing is that you feel comfortable with the advisor that you are dealing with. Make sure you get everything in writing from your payment amount, how long your Trust Deed will last and what will happen with any assets that you might own.
Can you give us an idea of how much debt you have, if you have any assets and how much you feel you could afford to pay per month?
