Hi

I'm 2 years into my PTD and this year I saved a bit of money (around £500) to help at Christmas etc. Got this from selling a phone - odds and ends and a small gift. I'd love to put this into my bank account so I can get things at Xmas and have my purchases protected rather than carring the cash around - do you think this is okay to put into my account - will my Trustee want a cut - or am I better just keeping it to myself?

Hi leeper1974.

From your description I very much doubt that you'd be expected to pay any of this money into your protected trust deed.

However, I suppose it would be right and proper for your trust deed firm to ask where the cash came from if they saw such a transaction on your bank statement when your review was due.

Maybe it's best to call your contact and run this by them? That way there should be a record if it's later spotted on a bank statement.

Good trust deed firms encourage people to set money aside to cover occasional expenses which don't arise every week or month.

Thanks - I'll run it past them - they also get 50% of a bonus I'm paid in January and I'm upfront about that as it comes through my salary.

If its been saved from being frugal with your spending its yours to do with as you wish. Get it banked so you dont miss out on the protection offered on your purchases.

As TDA says to put your mind at rest let your PTD firm know.

Get a Pre Paid Credit Card. Its the best thing I done. There is no checks for this as its not really a credit card. You can only use it if you put money into it and once you have money in it then you can use it like a credit card but obviously cant spend what you've not got..

Do the prepaid cards offer the same protection for your purchases?

Yes they do Paul. I'm not sure if I'm aloud to say who I use but it is honestly the best thing. You can check all your dealings on the computer as well..

Hi Paul. What I use is Escape Pre Paid Credit Card and you get it from Phones 4 U. If I remember correctly it cost me £10 to get it initially and you get a £600 limit. after that you can increase it to £3000 limit but you have to provide a utility bill for that.
All I do is if I see something that I want then I just nip up the town and put the money onto the card at Phones 4 U and then its ready to be used straight away for me to purchase anything. You can also pay in at Post Offices as well but don't know how long it takes to get credited to your card.
Its a Mastercard so can be use just like a real credit card.
If you want or need any more info then just pop into there shop and speak with them I have always found them to be more than helpful or look it up on the internet.
Cheers..

Hi leeper1974

I don't think your Trustee will want the money, you have done well to plan for Christmas, so hats off to you.

As for Tompie1980, you have it all worked out, and I am really glad to see the prepaid card working so well for you. Thanks for sharing your positive tips.

I was using a prepaid card from O2 which was free to top up and free to use,you just needed either a contract or payg mobile with them but they have stopped offering the service(something new promised but not here yet).

I just wasnt sure of the protection it offered, although it did carry the visa logo.
