I received a cheque for £500 today from my family as a birthday gift. My trust deed states that XX% of bonuses/overtime are to be paid to trust deed and I need to notify the trustee of any windfall over £1,000. I'm not sure if this £500 is considered a windfall of and therefore not relevent or if it is classed as a bonus in which case I should pay XX% towards the trust deed.

Does anyone have any guidance on this? I have notified the Trustee and will wait on their advice also.

Hi SuzuW.

I don't see how this could be viewed as a bonus as it isn't earned income.

Can't see it being classed as a bonus, and it's under the £1000.00 that you need to notify your trustee......

My advice is have yourself a great Birthday and Christmas, so go and treat yourself....

What a generous family you have SuziW. I'd agree with the others, if your trustee has specified a floor of £1k then I'd say you've nothing to worry about.

As per previous threads, you are the only person that can notify your trustee......

Yes you do have a generous family, but you should go and enjoy your gift(sensibly) and stop worrying about it.
