Hi All

Here is an update to my previous posts on Recommended Providers.

We had an appointment with a lady named Alison at Moray council this morning, Alison is a Money advisor who has been in the industry in excess of 30years, so she knows all about debts and how to deal with them.

She explained in Mickey Mouse language (normal every day layman's language) what the steps are and how much it costs and what the pitfalls could be.

We went through income and expenditure and if we are receiving correct benefits, and then we looked at the debts and who had what, it looks like it split 1/3 me 2/3rs Julie (my wife).

We discussed all the options and we have agreed to Sequestration to be started early in January 2015.

I would like to thank the experts on this forum for all the advice they gave me earlier this week.

Good for you lightbodyae55.

You've obviously been very proactive and I'm glad you've found a solution and a source of help that you're happy with.

Hi lightbodyae55,

Sounds like the meeting went well. I'm pleased that we have been able to assist you with the correct advice and to be able to take the proper steps to becoming debt free.

I'm sure you must be feeling a lot better about things than you were this time last week.

If I can help with anything else just let me know.

Try to relax now and pick things back up in the new year with the Alison.

Hi All

I have a bit of advice that I forgot to share in my earlier post.

This advice would be helpful to those persons who have decided to make our wonderful country Scotland their place to live.

When we had our meeting with Alison yesterday the piece of advice she gave was "get a box be it cardboard or plastic and put a Tartan ribbon round it, or some Tartan Fabric and label the box SCOTTISH LAW", and when you start to get the nasty letters from the creditors get the box out and put the letters in the box, and then remember SCOTTISH LAW, the creditors cannot do anything to you unless they follow the law and go to court, which in most cases is highly unlikely. They can threaten you with bailiffs, but there are none in Scotland, so no one can enter your home and remove goods.

What a wonderful country Scotland is.

The protection offered by sequestration and trust deeds is helpful if thats the chosen route to sorting yourself out. Good luck.

Thanks for the update, lightbodyae55. Glad to hear that your meeting went well.

I like that story about the box. I wonder how many times your adviser has said that over the years - countless I imagine. I can just picture thousands of Tupperware boxes with tartan ribbons throughout the length of Morayshire!
