Hi,

We are looking to open a new bank account (we were discharged from Sequestration in mid November 2020), and at present we have a current account with M & S which they are closing. We're thinking of opening an account with Nationwide, but other half had a CC with them which was included in Sequestration. Can they hold this against us for opening a Current Account (I'm just looking for a basic current account)?

Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks

Hi tigh,

I think you'll only find out by applying for the account.

Unfortunately I cannot remember this topic being discussed here any time recently.

As I understand it they should offer a "basic bank account" to you, but may choose not to offer their normal current account.

Thanks for replies. Ill be happy if they can give us a basic bank account to replace our closing M & S current account.

Hi tigh,

Pretty much all banks now offer basic accounts to people irrespective of their credit status.

I'm sure you'll be able to quickly arrange a suitable new bank account.
