Well here we are at the beginning of a new year and I am pleased to say I only have one more payment until my TD is completed. My question (which has probably been asked before, so I apologise) is about cancelling my DD once this payment has been made. Is it ok for me to do this as soon as my final payment has been made?

I have never missed any payments, my car is a company car and equity in my house was ruled out at the start of the TD.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi worriedme.

Nearly there!

I doubt that there's any issue with this, but for the sake of a quick call you might want to verify that your understanding is the same as that of your trust deed provider.

Hi worriedme

As TDA says, it is always best to contact the Trustee for confirmation before cancelling, although this can sometimes be a pain if you do not get an early response and another payment comes off which you then need to try and get back.

No harm in getting in touch with your Trustee now, in advance of the last payment, to check it is indeed the last one.

Should therefore allow plenty of time for an answer to come back before any further payments might be taken (though no reason I can see that it should take long for them to check their records).

Hi worriedme,

Well done on reaching this point and successfully completing your Trust Deed.

A quick call to your Trustee or relationship manager and they should be able to clarify the payments and what happens next with regards to your discharge.

How have you found the whole Trust Deed process?

Hi Worriedme
We cancelled our DD as soon as the last payment left our account as we had kept a record and knew that was the last. Called our trustee to confirm they agreed end off. I wouldn't keep it going if your sure you have paid all, as has been said it will be a pain trying to reclaim overpayments. At the end of the day you can always pay up if you are short.

Congratulations on completing you TD

Thanks everyone for your responses. This forum has been a great resource before, during (and I suspect after) my TD.

The whole TD process has been ok if I'm honest. There are key moments of stress/relief throughout the process, particularly at the beginning:-
Taking the first step - contacting a reputable company to help when you are at your lowest point.
The relief felt when you meet with your Trustee to be told that something can be done to help.
The even greater relief when you learn your Trust Deed has achieved "protected" status.
The end of all the phonecalls/letters asking for payment.
The satisfaction of being in control of your finacial situation despite things being tight.
The reassurances offered by others on this Forum.
The responses from your Trustee to emails which must seem incredibly obvious and mundane.
The excitement I feel right now knowing my final payment is only a matter of days away.

Thank you one and all. I am certain that I will continue to access this forum for some time to come and I wish others who are going through the TD process all the very best.

Hi worriedme,

Your summary is pretty much how things should work in a Trust Deed and each stage that someone passes through on the journey.

For everyone no matter what their situation is there is always a solution to deal with their debts. Some solutions are straight forward and quick and other solutions can be more complicated when assets are involved and can take a lot longer but they are solutions to providing that light at the end of the tunnel.

Best wishes for the future and enjoy being debt free.
