Welcome to the forum gary89.

A quick online check confirmed that you'd be credit checked as part of that standard. That will reveal a current trust deed.

Will that effect you getting the job? Only the employer can answer that as it will come down to their policies and procedures in this respect.

If I were that employer I'd see an individual being in a trust deed as much less of a risk factor than someone who was apparently carrying an unsustainable debt level. Others might see it differently though.

Hi gary89.

I think that's a good idea.

Disclosure of this will demonstrate your openness and honesty about a situation which will be revealed by the credit check anyway.

Many employers would see that as a positive.

Hi gary89,

Unfortunately a Trust Deed can have an impact on someone's employment prospects and it's one of the main disadvantages of signing a Trust Deed.

I've found that over the years employers attitude towards someone who has signed a Trust Deed has relaxed and they have become a little more understanding.

Recently I had one of my clients request a copy of their Trust Deed paperwork, a breakdown of their payments made to date and an expected completion date for their employer. They have been in the Trust Deed for a couple of years now and their employer just wanted to be kept up to date.

Hopefully this doesn't stop you getting the job. It would be useful for me and others on the forum if you could let us know how you get on.

Good luck!

Don't feel that you have to answer this if you'd rather not, Gary, but it would be interesting to know what kind of job/industry you are applying to work in?

Do disclosure checks reveal trust deeds. I've been with my employer for 10 years and I am just about to complete one.

Hi Downandout. There are various different checks employers can choose to do. The Disclosure Scotland checks to my knowledge do not involve financial checks specifically. they are more about convictions - in order to keep vulnerable people safe.

Many employers to background checks and those vary according to what information they require, which is generally associated with the job you do. Some organisations such as Police will automatically do finance checks.

Generally, employers declare the checks they will carry out, and often it is a condition of considering you for employment. Sometimes is it included in the contract of employment. The basic checks are likely to cover your qualifications, employment dates, references and criminal convictions.

Many different companies offer a background check service.

You say you have been with your employer for 10 years. Are you required to do Disclosure checks regularly to ensure the information is up to date?

Hi downandout. Firewalker's understanding is the same as mine - Disclosure Scotland checks deal with criminal convictions, not civil matters like debts/insolvency.

No this will be my first, I think it may have been missed after a role change a few years ago.

My sister completed a Td a couple of years ago and in her job an enhanced disclosure is a must. I will check with her to see if it was on hers and then I can be prepared for any potential cringe inducing moments.

I don't know first I'm named and shamed on google and my address made available for any tom, dick or weirdo and now this!

Someone needs to set up a TD rehabilitation centre along the lines of the priory where we can all run away to when our misdeeds are exposed!

Hi downandout.

From the comments of others it doesn't seem like personal insolvency forms part of these checks.

As a teacher I can categorically confirm a Disclosure check is solely to confirm any convictions you may have. An enhanced Disclosure check also shows up any relevant intelligence police may hold on you. In the last year or two Disclosure checks have been phased out in favour of membership of the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) scheme. As with Disclosure, this has nothing to do with insolvency matters.

Glad that's over with....
