Ok so how do I go about that as there isn't a branch near me and we don't drive?

I hav spoke to rbs online and they say they happy for me to open a basic account with them and I explained my situation will this be ok
Ljmckay
Yes they did

Although if still prefer to spk to the bank in person in my local branch

I'm not sure you've been correctly advised. RBS may have changed their position, but there would surely have been publicity about it.
I cannot find any such publicity online and most sources continue to advise that the Barclays Cash Card account is the only safe bank account from a high street bank while you're an undischarged bankrupt.
Sadly it also appears that it might have to be opened at a branch.
Things just get worse I can open an account with barcleys but only in a branch which is not close enough for me to get to..... Is there no other bank that would still allow me to open a basic account and keep it open once made bankrupt, I'm so unhappy this just gets worse
Ljmckay
I maybe able to get a lift to one if there branches il have to ask family but it's not 100% and I'm worried il not have it open in enough time before going bankrupt.....

There are paid for alternatives. See thinkmoney and ClearCash at the following link:
Updated Link 2020: https://www.trust-deed.co.uk/bank-accounts.html
Even if it were temporary they could help you to preserve basic banking facilities.
I'm a bit confused, what does paid for alternatives mean? And would it just be like a bank account
Ljmckay
Yes these are just bank account but come with a monthly fee. Fine if you have no alternative but try non fee paying options first.

Hi LauraM
I am with the Co-operative Bank and do not have a branch close to me. I would have to travel into the city. They have an agreement with the Post Office where I can deposit cheques and money and it has worked perfectly well for 5 years. I know that they have changed their policy on accounts for Trust Deeds and Bankruptcy but I am not knowledgeable enough to advise you on that.
I did check out the Barclays Bank site - they also have an agreement with the Post Office - for England and Wales. However, if you read the Post Office Website, they say they have an agreement with Barclays. I know we should not post links, however, this is just the page that confirms that information.
http://www.postoffice.co.uk/banking-services#barclays .
Barlcays also have an online banking facility which seems to cover the basic banking requirements when reading it. Very similar arrangement to the Co-operative. I guess it depends on what your banking requirements are.
I heard in last day or so that they are closing more branches and making redundancies, so more people will face the problem of branches not local to them.
Good luck with your meeting with Barclays LauraM.
