His mother and wife will be fine, they are not the ones in a Trust Deed. The only person who is accountable is him.

People abusing the system makes it harder for others who really do need the help of a trust deed. People hiding assets etc etc,do nothing but harm those who really are in need.

Just my tuppence worth.

Totally agree plasticdaft. (Love the name by the way). If a person has say £50,000 worth of debt and they are paying it off at around £400 per calendar month over say 3 years if they have a Trust Deed, that means they are really only paying back circa £14,400 if my maths is correct, so I'd say they are getting a pretty good deal so please for the love of God, don't lie, be grateful that the pressure is in some way lifted.

A relative of mine once worked as a sheriff's officer and took part in many a home visit. He told me once about going to remove goods from a gentlemans posh edinburgh flat only to find it empty of all but sink and radiators. They decided to stake out the flat and witnessed a chap arriving early one morning to collect the post, and then leave in a large white van. They followed the van down to the waterfront in leith, where they watched the chap hop onto a rather fancy yacht which appeared to be pretty low in the water. Deciding to board the yacht they discovered the entire contents of the chaps flat stuffed into every gap onboard!!! Surprised the boat hadnt sunk!!

People do try to avoid debts, and then people try to do the right thing and use things like trust deeds to get them back on track, and its a pity when individuals go out their way to use trust deeds but still act dishonestly regarding assets etc.

Wow thats some story, it amazes me how people have the balls to so something like that, the stess must have been horrendous, he would have had to plan everything and I bet he had many sleepless nights. I guess it just depends on what type of person u are. There are risk takers out there. What happened to the guy?
