End of Trust Deed - really?

Having undertaken a 4 year Trust Deed in April 2018, I have found this forum so useful and informative. Thought I would post to let you know my recent experience.

My trust deed should have ended with payment 1st March this year but I (erroneously) thought it would be extended because I had missed/reduced payments way back in the beginning. I also thought that my trustee would have let me know when coming to an end (last review letter said trustee discharge date was October 2022). So I just kept paying after the 48 months. Imagine my delight to get a letter on Friday saying I had made my required contributions AND to cancel my standing order AND enclosing a cheque for overpayments! Wow - can't begin to explain how good that feels.

I was so prepared to be paying for another 6 months but havent really had much communication with Trustee during lockdown/pandemic. Is that really it over? Nothing on register yet and havent been asked for bank statements or any sort of review, but Trustee letter was dated 27 April. Do I just wait for Form 5 now?

That's great news, Dell2u - you should treat yourself!

Until you receive the Form 5 then you aren't yet formally discharged and it is possible that the trustee might want to do some kind of review before issuing that. However, I don't imagine they would have sent you out a cheque if they hadn't reviewed your payment history and concluded that you had paid all that you need to, so hopefully your discharge will follow soon behind.

Thanks Kevin - thats what I thought. Well I'll cross my fingers that I will be discharged soon as it was beginning to feel like a prison sentence. Having said that, it was the ideal solution for my circumstances and my dealings with the trustee have been very straightforward from start to finish.
