Hello,
I have recently renewed a contact at my work and there is nothing in my contract terms and conditions which says about personal insolvency. I wasn't financially vetted for the job either. Can I assume I don't have to tell my workplace about my TD? I'm always worried they will find out and fire me. Should I speak to HR anyway?
Hi Lhen,
Most jobs don't require the disclosure of a Scottish trust deed.
If there's nothing in your contract (and/or handbook if you have one) then it seems highly unlikely that there's an issue here.
What type of work do you do?
I'm a civil servant, and for my security clearance to be continued i was asked about financial difficulties.
I just explained about being in a TD and how i ended up needing one and didn't hear anything again expect extending my security clearance for another 10 years. Being honest is the most important factor in this situation.
However, i only did this as i was asked about it. If i wasn't asked i would have seen no need to mention it.
Thanks for taking the time to post about your experience Jimmi.
Trust deeds don't affect most people's employment in any way but, where it might possibly be an issue, being honest and open definitely seems like the best course of action. Employers generally don't want to lose good staff because of financial issues that have been effectively addressed.
Hello both,
Thank you for your replies and advice.
I work in Higher Education so not a profession-based job. Checked my handbook and terms and conditions again and no mention of personal insolvency or trust deeds so I think I am OK but I would be honest if ever questioned.
