Hi I was just wondering if anybody knows how my trust deed will affect me getting a new job? I have had my TD for 2 years.
It looks as though I am going to be offered a position with sainsbury's bank pending pre employment credit checks.
I don't want to miss out on the role because if my stupid trust deed. Does anyone know their rules? For example I know in Clydesdale bank I can have a trust deed as long as I am not in a regulated role.

Thank xx

Can you anonymously contact HR and pose a hypothetical question to them?

Each company may have a different ruling on personal insolvency.

Paul

Trust deed completed Jan 2012,Trustee discharge Nov 2012.
A new dawn.

Hi ali212006.

I think Paul makes a good suggestion.

Banking is one industry where trust deeds can sometimes (by no means all of the time) be an issue.

It's a risk control measure (where implemented). If you're going to be credit checked anyway I'd see to disclosing it to the recruitment team before those checks take place.

Hi ali212006,

It's a little bit of a tricky situation in knowing what you should do.

You could risk not saying anything in the hope that you pass the credit checks but I'd be surprised if it wasn't discovered that you had some debt.

Alternatively you could be honest and upfront with the recruitment team about your financial situation as TDA has suggested. This will give you the chance to tell them that you have taken positive steps to deal with your debts by entering into a Trust Deed and you have successfully completed 2 years of it so far. You could even obtain a letter from your Trustee to confirm this for them.

There are obvious risks involved in both scenarios above and it's a hard choice knowing what to do.

Paul's is a good suggestion. You could call them asking about the job and advise them that you are in a Trust Deed at the moment and if this will have an impact on your chances.

Let us know how you get on and good luck.

Thanks guys - I just know that sometimes people know what banks allow them. When I applied for my TD the boy I spoke to knew that my current employer woold be OK with it but I think it was BOS that would not employ anyone with one.

I like Pauls idea so I might give them a call and see what they say. I have a chat with them on Friday so I might raise it with them then and see what they say. After all, I don't want to waste anyones time if its a no go.

Thanks for your advice and I wikll come back and let you know how I get on ๐Ÿ™‚

xx

Hi ali212006

I was accepted for a role at Santander. I failed the pre-employment credit checks due to my Trust Deed, therefore the offer of employment was rescinded!

BUT I now have a job with an investment company, had to do more pre-employment credit checks but I spoke to them and they offered me the job, that was 18 months ago.

Thanks Neverendingstory - I have sent a note to the recruitment adviser dealing with my interviews not the hiring manager so awaiting a response so fingers crossed. I would hate to hand my notice in to my current job then have to go back with my tail between my legs haha.

Well it is safe to say I am gutted - Sainsbury's could not employ me but not becasue I have a trust - but because there are 7 other defaults on my credit report. I had the job in the back depending on my credit check.

When I found out I paid to see my credit report and sure enouogh 7 defaults - but 5 of them are included in my trust deed. and the other 2 one hasds been paid and says 'satisfied' but still a default and the other I am paying back at ยฃ10 a month - it wasn't included in my original deed.

I notice that other creditiors which are in my trust deed show as being settled. I was so disappointed because the job i got knocked back for would have been more money and would mean that my creditor would potentially have received more money.

I now feel that there is no job for me while I have a trust deed. I can't get a job with any financial institution(even thought Ialready work for one) I cant get a job in insurance becsue they have customer ddetails and I wont get a job cash handling becsue they think im a total scumbag and would be tempted to steal it.

Anyway thats my wee rant over.

I'm ally sorry to hear that ali212006.

We've heard from plenty of people that have been able to get new banking or financial services jobs, but sadly we have also heard from some that have been rejected by a particular employer due to their credit status.

It all seems to come down to the employment policies (driven by risk-control systems) that each particular employer chooses to employ.

So sorry ali212006.

The banks get into trouble, get bailed out, and life goes on. A person gets into financial difficulties and well, I think everyone on this site knows the rest (life is quite difficult).

Hi ali212006,

I'm sorry to hear about the problems with the job offer.

Hopefully the Trust Deed can eventually be a solution to the financial difficulties you have experienced. In time and with some effort from you I'm sure your credit report will start to clear up and in future the possibility to apply for other jobs with better prospects may become more of an option. I realise though that it may not feel like that at the moment. I suppose a positive point would be that you were successful in the application process and were a suitable person for the job.

I notice that your paying ยฃ10 a month to a debt which wasn't included in your Trust Deed. Is there a reason for this?

Hi thanks everyone it turns out not getting the job was maybe a blessing as my role at my current work may be upgraded in the next few months to a better one than one I went for. David - it was a mobile contract which defaulted after the trust deed was signed. Oh well onwards an upwards. Thanks for the advice the advice guys and girls

Hi ali212006.

I'm really pleased to hear that something good may have come from this unfortunate situation. I do hope that the upgrade of your current job goes ahead soon as you describe.
