My final payment was just over 4 weeks ago. I know it can take up to 8 weeks to be discharged, (so we were told) but my question is when is it all official. Why I ask is I assumed it was when I receive a form 5, but I was reading somewhere I can't be discharged until the trustee has been discharged with form 6 and 7. I also put my name into AiB page, entered my name and no results were found. What does that mean?

Hi EdM.

Do you mean the "register of insolvencies"? I'm not sure why your details would not be there.

From your point of view Form 5 should be the end of it.

Yes TDA the register of insolvencies in the AiB website. I've tried everything but still "no results". Maybe it was all a dream. Now that you say about the form 5, I can remember on here, with I think a PPI issue, the trustee can still be involved after the person has been discharged. Must have been a dodgy website I was on.

Then after I send my reply I read the very thing- Kevin's response to Pamjo about PPI.

As i understand it your discharge comes from the Form 5 EdM.

You're done at that point.

Once you have the form 5 your are officially discharged from your obligations but your trustee can remain in office toclear things like ppi reclaims up. Once you have the form 5 you can celebrate!!!

Thanks Paul - just noticed your reply. Is it at that point I photocopy form 5 and send it to the credit agencies or do I need to wait until the trustee has been discharged? I've read somewhere (though maybe the same dodgy website, the trustee writes to me when they have been discharged. Is this just a courtesy thing or of any significance?

Hi EdM

The trustee needs to seek their discharge from the creditors using form 6. After 14 days he sends form 7 to AIB and the trustees discharge is recorded.

The important bit for you is receiving your form 5 which the AIB also gets and they use this to record your discharge. The trustee may notify you of their discharge, but it's not a requirement.
