Good Afternoon oh great and knowledgable experts (cue me buttering you up). My husband needs to enter a debt management programme (DAS would be enough I think). Do all your firms do DAS? His debts that I'm aware of are approximately ยฃ6000 on credit cards and around ยฃ10000 on a personal loan (Cahoot). His earnings are approximately ยฃ30k per year. We don't have joint bank accounts and the only common debt we have is the mortgage.
Advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi gillian
No, not all firms. It's something a lot of firms are now taking up though to become, I suppose, a one stop shop.

Mark, does your firm do it?

Hi gillian.
I think that Mark's firm are about to start handling DAS. I'm sure he'll confirm exactly where they are up to with this soon.
Kevin, Rob and David's firms have been handling DAS for a while.
Hi gillian
Yes, just got our authorisation through last week.

Hi gillian,
As Mark has said, not all firms offer the Debt Arrangement Scheme.
If you decide to use a private firm then it's likely that a fee will be involved. By using the voluntary sector/CAB then no fee will be involved.
Like a Trust Deed, different firms charge different fees and you want to do your homework as fees can vary quite considerably which can mean you DAS running for longer to cover these costs.
Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. Mark, I'll message you later once I have all the info and I'll get him to set up an appointment.

Gillian,
It seems that there are several options available to your husband, based on the information you have provided. DAS is very much one of those options. As others have said the firms we represent on this forum can offer entry in to DAS for a small fee. The CAB offer a free service, however the process takes a lot longer to get up and running than if you were to seek the assistance of an IP for obvious reasons.. Your husband therefore must decide what best suits his needs.

Not necessarily true in terms of speed of access to free DAS Rob?
I guess different CABs are likely to have differing waiting times for appointments.
Of course if you did decide to pay a fee for DAS you'd certainly expect speed of service (if that is important to you).
Thanks again. The reason I'd prefer him to look at a DAS is that I don't want to have to try to raise any equity that may be in our house. After just coming out a trust deed, my chances of doing that are nil. Also as his debt is nowhere near as bad as mine, I think DAS would be affordable and over a shortish period of time.
