Hi - has anyone had any problems getting Northern Rock to remove themselves from their credit record? All my other creditors have removed themselves but Northern Rock have simply put a note on saying that the debt was not fully satisfied. I thought after the 6 year mark, they then had to remove themselves entirely. I've written to them 3 times and been in touch with Equifax to no avail. Thanks

I don't think that any of them "remove themselves" fabfour.

Any entry that goes onto your credit file is removed after six years though - but this is an automatic process.

Hopefully someone will have a specific experience to share with you.

Fabfour - what is the actual date of default for the account?

Hi - I defaulted in 2008. This is more than 6 years so they should be automatically removed? I have been advised by Equifax to ring a company called UKAR but it's an 0845 number and I can't make calls from my sim only phone unless I load it with money. Thanks

Hi fabfour.

Any entry from 2008 should have vanished now.

Did they continue to add further updates after that time?

That's quite worrying Fabfour - lots of folk with Northern Rock on here (me included).

Haven't heard anyone encounter this problem with them. UKAR stands for UK Asset Resolution. They are the company created by The Government that looks after all the banks that they bailed out. I think it's more likely you will need to speak to NRAM (Norther Rock Asset Management). Try 0191 522 3031.

Fabfour - just a thought. What does your credit file say for the "reported till date" on the default?

I'm not sure that's going to be correct CIF.

Northern Rock's assets (loans) were split into a "good bank" and a "bad bank".

The good bank is NRAM. The bad bank is UKAR.

If Equifax has UKAR on their record it seems likely that UKAR are handling this account now.

The good part was bough by Virgin Money a couple of years back.

Hi Fabfour

Similar to what CIF asked. What is the actual default date showing against Northern Rock specifically?

In the Checkmyfile - it shows as Reported Until. In other credit reference files it will show as Default Date.

Although you may have actually defaulted in 2008, the date on your file for Northern Rock may be inaccurate (which is why people spend some time getting the dates corrected to match the Trust Deed date).

Hi - first of all, thanks for all the responses. I raised the query with Equifax in November 2014 and they spoke to NR who told me to write to them (NR). I have written 3 times, never getting an answer to any of my letters.

NR have my default date as 2011. In fact, I first defaulted in July 2010 (not 2008 as I previously stated) so I think I may be a year early in trying to get this off my file, in which case, I apologise to everyone who took the time to answer my query.

But, can I just clarify, is the default date the date that I first stopped paying or is it the start of my Trust Deed. But I think I may have another year before I can get this off my record.

Thanks

Hi fabfour.

For debts included in your trust deed, defaults notices should be no later than around the start date.

When did your trust deed begin?

Hi TD Expert - I've just been reviewing my paperwork again and I see that my TD started in July 2008, so I must have defaulted in July 2008, not 2010 - time really flies and I got a bit confused looking back at all the paperwork. The default date on the NR record on my credit report is definitely incorrect then, and if it's six years from the date of default, it should automatically come off (but not if the default date is incorrect). How do I get the default date corrected? would that be by proof to the credit agencies or by asking NR (again)? Thanks
