I am less than a year from completing my trust deed. I require to travel away with over night stays, for my job, which will be on expenses. So I will need to pay it and claim it back. I have a company American Express card but it is not as widely accepted as visa or MasterCard. I decided to apply for a credit card with the nationwide for work purposes only. The application criteria states that you should not be in an IVA. It does not mention a Trust Deed. Not sure if trust deed would be considered the same an IVA.

Hi Matt65.

I think it would, these two debt solutions are in many ways comparable and similar. Also Nationwide is hardly known for being helpful to clients in trust deeds. They recently removed access to their basic current account for example.

A few people here have had success with an application for a Vanquis credit card during trust deeds as well as after discharge.

I also think that with the IVA being the English equivilant to the Scottish TD this is realistically not an option for you at this time. As mentioned above, and regularly on the forum our users tend to find the Vanquis card the best fit when in the Trust Deed, coming to the end, and in order to build credit again.

It's a good point re the American Express card. I had one a while back and noticed more and more businesses were not accepting it. I'm guessing their charges are greater than other CC's.

Their charges are much higher than apply to Visa or MasterCard.

Someone I know doesn't use their Amex card at any local retailers any more because they feel bad about the serious chunk of money that the retailer loses to American Express.

Hi TDA

Good point. I can remember trying to pay for the bill (yes honestly!) at the end of a meal and being told they don't accept it. Nearly had me doing the dishes!

Nationwide didn't give me a credit card during my Trust deed. However, Vanquis did with a £500 credit limit. As TDA points out most people on here have been successful with their application to vanquish - worth a try.
