Myself and my wife were discharged in April 2014. Now two years later we have received letters from the Trustee requesting £1000 each for 'closure fees'. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please? This Trustee is not the one we initially signed up with as I assume our debt was moved or sold to this new company Apex. We're just beginning to get on our feet again and this has taken the wind right out of our sails
The experts can maybe correct me if im wrong but once you have been discharged there is no more fees payable to anyone, your trust deed repayments cover debts to your debtors and "trustee's fees" which include the complete handling of your trust deed from start to completion, why would you have to pay a closure fee when case is already closed!!!...but then again this industry never fails to surprise me!!!
Never heard of this before. Could be administrative error?
Hi, I was discharged from my trust deed July 2015 and have just received a letter asking for £900 closure fees. Surely this can't be right as I thought that was it over with. Can anyone help?
I wonder if this is a misunderstanding, Britvic72. Perhaps you are just receiving a copy of a letter sent to creditors advising that the Trustee is proposing to take that amount as closure fees?
As littlemo said, once you are discharged there is nothing left to pay. A quick call to Apex might clear this up.
Hi scottjames and welcome to the forum.
This is a new one to me and I've never heard of asking a client for a ÔÇ£closure feeÔÇØ.
As littlemo has advised once you have completed what you had agreed and received your discharge then you should not be asked or required to pay any more money to the Trust Deed.
I would go back to your Trustee and ask them to clarify in writing why they require a ÔÇ£closureÔÇØ fee to be paid when you have both been discharged.
Like Kevin has advised it could be a misunderstanding with the fees that the Trustee is charging to close the case which isn't something you will pay but will come from the pot of money they hold for the creditors.
Let us know how you get on.

Many thanks to those who replied to my topic. I am grateful to you for the advice. Was a bit of a sleepless night! I will contact the company and let you know how I get on.
Quick call to them this morning should clear things up for you.

I always planned to call the company. Was just looking to get forearmed!
As Mr Tannock suggested it was a letter for the creditors and I was copied in. I think I just took fright and wasn't thinking clearly. Thanks to all that responded.
Good news, but surely there should be some clarification when firms are sending these out to clients?
I agree tinsoldier. I accept it was my fault as the letter started 'Dear Sirs' so perhaps I should have looked closer but I don't feel there was any reason for me to receive this letter if it was a matter between the trustee and my creditors. After coming out of a TD I am now very diligent about paying attention to my bills and associated correspondence but at that moment in time all I could see was 'we request £1000 to close'. Panic made me a bit blind. Britvic, you haven't responded. Was yours a similar letter?
Sadly I've found out over the last 6 months that there are some rules that seem to be made up by TD firms as they go along.
Can I qualify that by saying not all, and praise to those who are doing the industry proud.
That's a relief, scottjames. I had a feeling that's what it would be.
It's good practice to send a copy to you too - full transparency and all that. We would normally mark it as such clearly to avoid these misunderstandings though.
