Good afternoon everyone

I was discharged from protected TD January 14. Will be 6 years post signing come July this year. Registered for the month's free trial with experian, score is 626, poor. Credit file showing 2 outstanding balances - Next & RBS which were taken into in TD. How do I go about getting these sorted - I need a step by step guide lol
Thanks so much in advance

Hi Boys1211

I would not be concerned about the credit score - it will not change in any significant way until the Trust Deed and Credit defaults dr#8203;op off after six years.

Check all your credit companies and the default date showing.
All of the dates should match the signing date of your Trust Deed (or within a few weeks of that date).

It is the responsibility of the Data Controller of each company to ensure your records are correct. However in my experience, it is the Default Accounts (or similar name) that actually notifies the Credit Reference Agencies to be updated.

You can call them or write to them.
Take a copy of your original signed Trust Deed and a copy of the Form 5 discharge. (Actually the Form 5 has both signing and discharge date so that may be enough). Provide them with that copy and advise them that you require your record to be corrected in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

Often, the companies are in England and not quite sure about a Trust Deed, so I had to advise them the legal situation that it was the date of signing and that it should be marked Satisfied or Partially satisfied.

In my own experience, I have written and called and some take longer than others to respond. I actually received £650 compensation payment because RBS did not action letters or calls.

Others on here I know have had quick results.

Start by checking dates.
Make contact to Customer Services Department and ask for the department that deals with Defaulted accounts.
Keep a note of all dates and times and the person you spoke to.
Ask for e-mail addresses and e-mail a scanned copy of your Trust Deed or Form 5.
Check your Credit Reference Agency after about 6 weeks to see if it has been corrected.

There are several Agencies and not all show the same information so you may like to check Equifax, Experian, Callcredit, Noddle.

Noddle is free.
Checkmyfile is around £7.99 per month and shows Equifax and Callcredit. (Checkmyfile gives contact details of lender).

If you have to write, send it recorded delivery and keep the record.

I hope that helps and you get fast response.

That's brilliant Firewalker - I hoped you'd step into this thread given your knowledge and experience of the subject.

boys1211 - the only thing I'd add is not to be shy about using the complaints procedure of firms that don't respond promptly and positively. Financial institutions have to account to their regulator about complaints and, as a result, the complaints teams are often highly empowered to get things done in a way other departments aren't.
