The trustee gave me notice he intends to uplift ny car and private reg in order to sell it for the benefit of the creditors. I wrote to him at the beginning of February agreeing to this decision. We agreed it would be uplifted this week. The problem I have now is they have advised me they now wont uplift car until they sell the private plate first, its turning out to be a nightmare. I just want the car to go. I spoke with the person who deals with my account and I suggested they sell the plate with the car as the costs to re register the car and then until the plate is sold it would need to be put on retention so this would incur more fees, so basically they wont get much for the plate anyway and they have estimated its only worth 840. Does anyone have any suggestions? They have suggested I could maybe keep the plate at a reduced price, I dont want it as they will still want that money off me next yr when am making extra payments just now to clear equity in my property, the last thing I need it holding onto plate which is no good to meand then I would need to pay the dvla fees to keep it on retention. They told me its finding difficult to get the plate sold. Any advice is appreciated.
Hi Dollybee
I assume they dont want to incur storage charges until the plate is sold, although i see no reason why the cant sell it with the plate as this would enhance the value.

Thanks for the reply Mark.
I think ill suggest that to them again, I really just want to concentrate on clearing the house equity, at the end of the day, they made the decision to do the uplift and now I feel really quite stressed out with it all. My road tax also expires on Wednesday, am going to have to contact the dvla as I wont be taxing it, but ill probs still need to insure it until they do the uplift, what a carry on.
Hi Dollybee
I think the insurance may be a good angle. I'd be tempted to write recorded delivery and advise that you will do the SORN, however as the vehicle is not insured, then you require confirmationin writing that your trustee will accept full liability for any subsequent damage to the vehicle.

I will send a letter to the trustee today, he should get it Tuesday. This is very stressful, if they want the car and they have told me in writing it will uplifted this month then surely they cant just back out and change the plans, it totally upsets everything. I had my head round what was happening and now am left with a car with no tax, insurance and unsure what is going to happen. I should never had got into debt.
I always wanted a private plate.
J4MBO,problem is I cant afford it and couldnt afford a car which it would look cool on!!!!
We should all never have gotten into debt dollybee, but it happens to the best of us. Fingers crossed you get something sorted.

A new dawn.
Paul I'm not in that position myself luckily - found the site trying to help my sister who got herself into debt and it has ruined her life and destroyed her family. She's lost everything and is currently in hiding pretending it isn't happening. I've learned so much about the issues that I'm now working with a local credit union and the citizens advice team.
This site is like a breath of fresh air of people trying to help themselves and taking responsibility for their lives. People like yourself who have changed their lives for the better because of debt problems. The clouds really can have silver linings if you look for them. Perhaps one day my sister will see sense and start putting her life together again.
A wee update...
Trustee wont accept liabilty of the uninsured vehicle, ehich I think is wrong, but who am I to argue. Anyway they have come to the conclusion that its better I keep the plate. So they have reduced my monthly payment this month to allow me to pay the dvla the retentions costs to keep the plate. When I receive a new logbook and mot cert from the dvla with new reg details they will then uplift car. They say by the time they pay fees to dvla and also the company that would buy the plate take a 30% profit then it was hardly worth while. They have basocally sold me the plate for a couple of hundred, I just need to sell it on now and if and when I get cash for it ill pay it towards my equity from the house. I also asked them to put in writing to me that they have no further interest in plate. Hopefully car will get uplifted sooner rather than later.
