Hi I have been told I will get a bonus at work in region of 400pound. This is a performance based quartly bonus.at my home visit the person did ask about bonus. My net pay on expenditure is 1100 when in fact this is max a month I can get as normally net pay is 1030approx. When doing my expenditure have they put my bonus payments into my net pay? The reason I ask is I called me trustee and she said its classed as a windfall and need to hand it over unless needed for a repair. My partnwer and myself had thought about buying a carpet as living room carpet is old and ruined. Would that be classed as a repair or a luxury?
Hi ldc
My firm would normally allow you to keep a percentage of your bonus, and I would of thought that most firms would be the same. I don't think I would class getting a new carpet as a luxury.
I would presume that your trustee has worked out an average of your monthly pay, particularly if your income goes up and down, however you should ask how they have worked this out, particularly if they have taken your bonus into account.

It wouldn't be very fair if they have taken into account your bonus when working out your average monthly income and then expect it to be paid across as a lump sum too. You should definitely query it with them, as Julie says.
