I have had a friendly letter from Albion which is a Debt Collection Company. They obviously don't know about my impending Trust Deed, so they sent a letter basically saying "Pay up now or face court action or a home visit from our debt collectors!"
Will they do such things? Or do I have to dust off my old suit (for court) or keep some nice cakes handy (for my lovely visitors)?
Hi selleck
I wouldn't worry, they have no right to come to your door as that is simply harassment. Please advise Albion that if anyone attends your home without going through the court process you will lodge a complaint with the OFT.
As for court action, at best ( or worst I suppose) you are looking at 3-4 months.

Thanks very much, Mark.
On the subject of home visits from collectors, this is a very common threat made by debt collection agencies. In my experience it almost always a bluff intended to scare the person into making a payment so can be safely ignored.
I believe creditors' representatives are quite within their rights to come to your house if they wish, as long as they do not harass or threaten you. If they did knock on your door then you would simply advise them that you were receiving professional assistance and that proposals should be with them shortly, then close the door.
They are not, however, allowed to enter your house without your permission nor remove anything belonging to you without taking court action first.
