Hi today I tried to open a joint account with my partner as we are thinking about renting a flat, anyway it got rejected as I had bad credit, I successfully completed my trust deed in August 2012 now I know I'm still black listed for another 3 year but the lady in the bank says if I go to citizens advice and pay a certain amount they would clear my name, is there any truth in this, she says she knows people who has done it, also I've not done anything after completing my trust deed, do I need to do anything? I've managed to get myself a vanquis credit card so that's going fine but just wondered if I need to contact anyone to clear my name, I've been discharged, any help would be most appreciated keep up the good work as you's do a great job
Hi dazza.
I've never ever heard of anything of the sort. You cannot pay a sum of money to any party that will "clear your name" in terms of your credit rating. Basically you appear to have been told a whole lot of rubbish I'm afraid.
By the way... there is also no such thing as a blacklist. Making some responsible use of credit over time should start to improve things for you gradually.
You may wish to try another bank for a joint account. One bank saying no doesn't mean you cannot have one.
Can you try your own bank for a joint account? Better still I would avoid financially linking yourself to your partner if her credit rating is good and yours is colourful!
Do you need a joint account for a specific reason?

A new dawn.
When the women told me that I was like eh don't think so, In the end up my partner just opened up an account so we could both put money into for bills etc, just thought I would ask about the other thing thanks
Get copies of your credit reports from call credit equifax and experian ยฃ2 each and see whats on them. You can probably clean things up yourself but until the td drops off you will struggle for mainstream lending or bank accounts.
Good luck.

Hi I've just opened an account with call credit equifax and I've went into the credit agreements page most of my agreements has an S next to them which I take it means settled 2 has a D which means defaulted and 1 that has a U which means not updated, does this sound about right I finished my trust deed 5 months ago? The 1 with a U was part of my trust deed????
Hi dazza.
We're not experts on this type of thing. Another member might have some thoughts for you on this.
Defaulted accounts should show as being satisfied or at least partially satisfied.
The balances on the accounts should all be at zero.
Ok thanks
I have heard of people being offered this before, but I would be very wary as you would probably be wasting your money. The best way to improve your credit file is by responsible borrowing as TDA says. Time is a great healer !!!
