I was in the middle of my daily read of the forum topics and my phone just rang. When I answered it there was the usual two second pause and I thought this is a call centre. It was The Money Group to tell me about the new government legislation that could wipe out up to 75% of my debt and as my name was on their database it would appear I was having financial difficulties.

I asked where they got their information from and he said the purchase it from Experian. I said that I didn't need their help as I was in a PTD to which the guy replied and how is it going? Can you afford the payments? So that means you'll be debt free in three years does it? I was actually quite impressed that he knew what a PTD was until he said "Three years isn't bad but I can help you be debt free in 12 months"

He then went on to tell me I could go for bankruptcy and after a year would be debt free. I said I didn't think I could file for bankruptcy if I was in a PTD and he said well it would mean me not paying my trustee so I would be discharged and then they could help me file for bankruptcy. I said but I would still need to pay for three years if I could afford to and he said no after a year you stop paying.

I told him I was quite happy with what I had and asked that he removed my name from their database. I don't believe that this is what they are now stooping to now to get business, surely something can be done to stop these clowns from pestering people with incorrect information.

Hi AlphaB

Unbelievable. The quality of advice and the lengths some firms will go to for a 'sale' is simply astounding.

Hi there.

There seem to be a number of companies with quite similar names doing this at the moment. How do I know? One of them seems to have put our office telephone number on their dialler!

Incredible that someone would suggest bankruptcy without asking any questions to understand whether there would be any negative implications for the individual first.

Having watched this forum for years now it's evident that a huge number of problems are caused by cold callers who are either incompetent or plain outright liars.

The obvious advice... if you're thinking of starting a trust deed or any other debt solution steer well clear of cold callers. They may sound really helpful on the phone, but that's because most of them will say almost anything to get you to sign up.

Sends a shudder down the spine reading that story. I think it must be sheer incompetence, otherwise how could these people sleep at night?

Omg the money group! i have less than nice things to say about this company. They did the same to me last year, and no matter how many times i told them i was in PTD, and to remove my number from there database, they kept calling me on my home number as well as my mobile, i ended up blocking there number on my mobile and when they kept calling my house i ended up threatening to report them to my solicitor for harassement and also the powers that be in regards to there constent calls and business practice of harassing people especially after i expressed on every call to remove my number and details.

The Money Group seem to be well known down south through IVA Forums that broadly mirror this site - seems they have upset a lot of people but the reality seems to be they are 'packagers' - they will charge you for doing the initial legwork then send your details to an IP.
