I've always thought that the introduction of DAS filled a gap in terms of debt solutions and the post is a good example of how one solution can change from one to another depending on information and circumstances.

Previously there was only sequestration and Trust Deed options. This missed out a section of people with equity which, but for the property crash, would have been easier to release to deal with debt issues but became impossible. DAS ( hopefully) filled this gap.
