My limit is up to £3000 on their gold card now. Horrendous APR should ensure it never has a balance I can't afford. Nice positive recording on credit file.

I must say I do like the way Vanquis go about their business. I was quite taken by their colourful wallchart that shows how you may progess with the Vanquis card. The monthly way they assess performance and key months for your credit limit to increase.

As you say Paul the interest rate is breathtaking compared to the 0% rates I, and I'm sure you, used to enjoy. Which is good because there is really no temptation to use a card that stuffs you at the other end on payment day.

I plan to buy a couple of much needed tyres for the car and pay them up over 5-6 months. Thus showing a positive payment history.

I found an online interest rate calculator which was very helpful. Basically going to be paying interest of around £8 a month, so £50 over 6 months.

I also like Vanquis' payment protection plan, no not PPI !. For £1.29 per £100 borrowed they allow a payment holiday once a year and also would freeze the account for 2 years if you were unable to pay.
