I was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as myself and could give me some advice.

I was recently made redundant but was unsuccessful in finding another job in the uk - i have made the move to Australia where i am currently working.

I was wondering if it is possible to set up a trust deed or even a debt management scheme from abroad in order to try and sort out my debts or do you have to still be a resident in Scotland or the UK?.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

Hello rwas18,

It's great to have you visit us from Australia.

My understanding is that the test for a Scottish Trust Deed is that you have been resident in Scotland within the last twelve months. Our experts will confirm that to be correct or will correct my comment.

A lot of expats enter into debt management plans from abroad. There is no statutory restriction on recent residence for a debt management plan as it is an informal agreement between the parties.

Hi rwas18

TDA is correct, jurisdiction applies here and you would need to show that you had residence in the year preceding.
