Hi I'm looking for some advice.

I have returned to work after my maternity leave and have been paying a family member to look after my daughter to allow me to work full time. We have enrolled her in a Nursery but a place will not be available until April and then we will join the Busy Bees Voucher Scheme to help us pay the nursery and maintain payments to our PTD. (All payments are completely up to date)

We have received our review in and obviously with the childcare being an additional expense from the last review they will be looking for proof that we have this additional expense but we are not able to provide any as it is a family member. Is it likely they will ask us to pay them this money as we can't prove where it has gone?

Any advice would be great and save the worrying!

[:D]

Hello melaniec,

I'm wondering if a letter from the family member would satisfy your Trustee.

Perhaps our experts could let us know how their firms would look at a similar scenario...

Hi melaniec

I don't think it is unreasonable for family to look after children. I think a letter and perhaps details of payment would be sufficient. In these cases, I think it is better if payment is made via Standing Order or something. That way you can show the deduction.

Thanks Mark & TDA. I hadn't thought about it until now and I think you're right a standing order would have been the best option in hindsight.

Would I be best to get a letter and send it with the review to save them coming back to me?

Thanks

Hi melaniec,

That sounds like a good idea to me. Might be good for the family member to specify how many hours they have helped for to justify the amount that has been paid.

Thanks TDA, I'll get her to do that tonight and send it off with my review.
