Hi
I paid off my trust deed 3 years ago this January and this is still affecting my credit rating now. Can you advise how I can improve my rating?
Also, I applied for PPI thinking that I was discharged from my trust deed (says so on my credit report) but any PPI I was entitled to has been sent to the company I had my trust deed with. This may be standard practice but would be good to know for sure as the company are very unhelpful when I call them.
Thanks
Hi Nicole85
Your credit file is affected for six years from any default date recorded.
The Trust Deed is recorded separately to the credit accounts affected.
The Trustee does not inform the Credit reference agencies you have completed it. (that is not their remit).
Each creditor will have entered a Default date on the account you have with them. That date should be the same (or very close to) the Trust Deed signing date.
Check all creditors to see the default date. Unless that matches the Trust Deed signing date it will remain until 6 years after the individual default dates.
If they are incorrect you will need to contact each creditor to have the record amended.
My creditor default dates varied up to 6 months after the Trust Deed signing date and so would have remained for 6 years from each date unless they were corrected.
The question of PPI is for the experts. There have been numerous posts over several months (including this week) about handling of PPI post Trust Deed discharge. So you are not alone.
Good luck getting your credit files cleared up.
Welcome to the forum Nicole85.
Firewalker has already given you very good advice regarding your credit rating.
Regarding the PPI, there are a couple of current forum threads here on this exact same topic that I'd suggest you read. You may also wish to read the following article:

Thanks for the information Firewalker. I will check out the dates.
