Hi there,

I was discharged from my trust deed last month. [:)][:)]
I am now at uni studying nursing, so I get a bursary every month that goes into my current account. Loads of my pals have student accounts with free overdrafts. Is there any point in me upgrading my account with the bank to a student one, and apply for a minimal overdraft, or will they just laugh in my face?

Thanks in advance [:)]

Hello weejack,

Congratulations on the completion of your Trust Deed.

I guess if the bank were to credit-check then you might be rejected but as they know you already they may not credit check you at all. At least one of the major High Street banks has an automatic screen-prompt for their staff of how much they can extend someone's overdraft to if they ask for an increase (i.e. the information has already been based on the customers previous usage of their account rather than a credit check today).

If you decide to apply for an overdraft I wish you luck and, more importantly, best of luck with your studies.

Good for you weejack.

Like the trust deed assistant says, if you don't ask you won't get - it's worth a try!

Just to mention also, you may already be aware of this but interestingly Student Loans aren't credit scored. If you meet the eligibility criteria (ie you are the right kind of student on the right kind of course) then you are automatically entitled, regardless of any credit problems you may have had in the past.

All the best with your studies

Kevin
