Hi everyone... i paid my first payment to my trust deed at the start of this month. What concerns me the most is my life cover being taken into the trust deed should anything happen to me leaving my husband to pay a mortgage on one wage. Also we have a joint bank account so what happens to that .. the account is used solely to pay bills mortgage etc

Hi sinc1967 and welcome to the forum.

How much does your life insurance cover you for compared to the debts you have? Bear in mind that if the worst did happen then any surplus once the debts (and trustee's costs) are repaid will be paid out to your husband.

Is there something that you are worried about specifically regarding your joint bank account?

Hi sinc1967,

I would check the terms of your Life Insurance Policy as depending on the type of policy you have it could be held in Trust for your husband therefore it would not be taken into the Trust Deed. However if this isn't the case, as Kevin has said should the worst happen any surplus funds after Trustee's costs and your debt are repaid would be paid to your husband.

With your Bank Account if you have any debt with the bank or an overdraft on the account even if it is not used, it is some banks policies to close the accounts and only allow basic accounts to be used.

Do you have any debts with the bank where your joint account is held sinc1967?

Does the account ever go overdrawn? Is it overdrawn currently?

My accounts have been closed with BOS .. have opened new current account with TSB. My husband will need to open new current account with BOS for our bills . What happens to my savings I have with the credit union and should I still pay into it or not?

Hi sinc1967.

Have you told your trustee about your credit union savings?
