Watched the "Tonight" programme. Scary stuff, the amount of folk who pay rent or mortgage on credit , have to say have never had to do that, but there for the grace of God.....

Also spoke about the perils of the "PayDay Loan" companies.

Did anyone else see it??

Unfortunetly i did not see this.
It is a common occurance though that people use credit to keep themselfs a float these days especially when moneys tight and you think oh i know i will just pay it with the credit card and deal with it later to save the cash u do have at that time for other priorities. But using that credit comes with intrest on top but you don't think of that at the time. I am first to admit i did it myself for a while to try and keep me going but realised i was getting deeper and deeper. I never had to do it with mortgage or rent but i did do it on everything else. Then i realised the downfall.

Oh the perils of payday loans! lets just say i have some refrain words for those type of companys and i'd probably fill a swear jar by the time i finished so i will just smile and say nothing apart from Been there and done that and paid badly for it. All i can say is anyone who is thinking of going that route run away as fast as you can and don't look back.

Sadly, many people do pay their rent and mortgages on credit cards. I didn't see it on TV, but will watch it on reply since you said it was so interesting............if that is the word!

Hi boys1211.

I watched it.

It was good to see Steve Perry featured on the programme. He was the gentleman discussing having found himself with more than 60 payday loans. If you want to learn more about him and his campaign, visit his website by typing "Say No To Payday Loans" into a search engine.

We've engaged with Steve on Twitter (he's @steveperry2011 and we're @trustdeedforums for any Twitter users reading). He has quite a story to tell and is doing a lot of good work to publicise the dangers of these loans and the dodgy tactics used by a lot of payday lenders.

Have a read of Steve's website Shona.

He certainly has plenty to say, and quite rightly so.

I should point out that he openly said on the programme tonight that he had been irresponsible in his borrowing, but surely the lenders never should have allowed him to get to that point?

On a similar note, one of my colleagues here once worked with a couple that had amassed over £320,000 on 56 different credit cards. It's not just payday lenders that need to take more care in terms of their responsible lending policies.

wow 60 payday loans, I went and googled it and found it very intresting. I'm glad to see someone has an official campaign to stop these sort of companies and there antics. I was reading the blog and was so engrossed into his blog posting my other half shouted on me various time and i kept saying in a minute lol (He got fedup calling for me) and came in to ask me what i was reading. He seen me reading about a payday loan company he himself is having issue with at the moment and before long asked me for the site and is at the moment engrossed in reading the site. I'm glad to see someone is fighting back against these companies!

Steve is fighting really hard, and looking for support from other people who feel the same way as him.

Another person fighting hard is Stella Creasy MP. We ask that external links aren't posted to the forum, so i apologise for my hypocrisy in sharing a link to her talking about her views on these high-cost lenders. A non-working 16 year old lent £300! It's well worth a watch:

Thank you for the link trust deed assistant. I have just been over there and heard what she had to say and am in total agreement with her. I'm a big supporter to anyone fighting hard against these companies. i have unfortunetly been one of the ones to experience the effects of a few of these payday loan companies in the past because i thought it would be a quick fix to keep me afloat only to sink harder and faster into a world of debt. I also can openly admit to her point of borrowing from a 2nd payday loan to pay off a first as well as the intrest and the vicious circle it causes. It's one of the reason if anyone asks me about payday loans i say run away as fast as you can and don't go that route as it cause more problems than you would ever think. It's a quick fix that in the end turns into a horrid mess.

Payday loans are BAD BAD BAD..onece u have 1 its down hill from there and before u know u have 4or 5 at once..jst before i signed my trustdeed in dec i would have been expected to pay 1500 of paydays loans a few days before xmas thats before paying rent etc and i only get a wage of 1100 a month i was terrible couldnt eat or sleep through it all.a payday loan seems like a easy soulotion cos the quick transfer and no paperwork credit check etc but its the biggest mistake i made and its a lesson well learned.

A "tweet" from Steve Perry 2 minutes ago after he read this thread:

"Just read some of the comments, almost brought a tear! Its nice to see messages of support, fighting harder than ever now"

Suppose it's all too easy to find yourself in downward spiral, found old credit card statements the other day, from our desperate days.....was doing balance transfers at the rate of noughts !!

I remember only too well the fear of getting turned down, and towards the end before we took the plunge and got TD (still the best thing we have evr done) some of the Credit card comapnies started to reduce our limits & increase the interest !!!

Shona £320k spead on credit cards is obviously way at the end of the spectrum but I can honestly see how this could happen all too easily !!!
