Hi all. Some background info first. I signed protected trust deed June 2013 and was discharged Dec 2015 with full contributions from third party. As you can imagine I have been unable to get a mortgage however, As a last resort I approached my local council whom I have worked for for over 13 years with regard to a housing loan and today have been accepted so we are able to buy our council home under the right to buy. Ecstatic isn't the word, I cannot believe this has Finally become reality. I'm not sure if all councils offer this but thought I would share so others in same position can at least investigate their options
The criteria was that you have to produce 2 mortgage rejection letter (no problem for me )and these were soft searches so don't even go on your credit file, fill the application, 3 months payslips, and copy of form 5 to prove discharge. They do look at credit file but not as in depth as a mortgage lender would. Doesn't have to be an employee but I think that perhaps continuous service helped in my case. Just wanted to let others know that there may be a way if your in same situation as I am
No it's available for new builds or private sales.
Hi,
Where can I find more info on this? have googled it but can't find anything on the Glasgow city councils website.
Hi Chris. I had right to buy in my name only due to the length of time in council property my partner came on as joint tenant so the right to buy had to be in both names therefore both names on mortgage - want going to happen for me at this point. My local housing department pointed me in the direction of housing loans. And applied and was accepted. Best thing you can do is speak to your local authority to see if they offer this facility to you. Can't tell you how much of a relief it has been for us
Chris as you are in Glasgow maybe you should approach Glasgow Credit Union. I think there was reference on here of successful mortgages if you have been discharged for a year
Always worth an ask
It's going back around 18 months ago and it was the mortgage advisor at Glasgow Credit Union that was telling me. We had a client who had successfully completed their Trust Deed and GCC needed a letter confirming this.
It might have changed now but like you say Nearlyover it's worth asking them.
