Hi, so a debt that I was last chased for over 3-years ago at an old address has re-appeared today via Sheriff Officers visiting me at my place of work ….. I work in an openplan office so colleagues overheard and I was taken in by a manager to "discuss" …..

Can SO visit your place of work ?

Welcome to the forum SM21.

Unfortunately my understanding is that Sheriff Officers are allowed to visit your workplace.

I do sympathise very much with how you must feel about what's happened today. Was there any opportunity given to move to a more private place to talk?

Thanks for your response ...... A colleague answered the door and gave my name ..... when I went to reception the office was silent and the Officer, polite tho he was, proceeded to tell me who he was and why he was there ...... I think the shock rooted me to the spot .... he asked if I was aware of the debt which I said a few years ago but heard nothing ...... he told me to contact the solicitor acting for the creditor and wished me well ......: literally I stood there and just stared at the paperwork before I could turn round and head back to my desk with everyone looking ..... I put my hands up and say I should have done something about it 3years ago but various things have been thrown at me family and health wise and I didn’t ....... I’ve had an ache in my stomach all day and having to explain to my manager ...... I work in finance so it wasn’t looked on very favourably 🙁

Hi SM21

Sorry to hear about your experience.

If the debt has been passed over to a sheriff officer then that means the creditor is looking to enforce diligence to recover the sums due.

You may wish to reach out to an advisor to see what solutions may be available in dealing with this debt.

Hi SM21.

It sounds like you've had a lot to deal with recently.

Are you currently in a financial position to be able to deal with this old debt?

Hi SM21,

That sounds like an awful experience! Sorry that you had to go through that.

How much is the debt for? Also is this your only debt or do you have others?
